Insurers shift to eTrading as survey reveals trends

The 2026 edition of Insurance Times’ Five Star Rating Report for eTrading has named six providers as top performers, with three insurer extranets and three insurers trading via software houses earning the highest five-star accolade from broker partners. The annual report, now in its 12th year, measures broker satisfaction with the eTrading services provided by both insurer extranets and software house platforms.
The findings are based on a survey of more than 750 brokers conducted between January and March 2026. Respondents rated the platforms they had regularly used for business over the past 12 months.
Which extranets took the top marks
Among insurer extranets, Aviva Fast Trade, Zurich Online, and Allianz QuoteSME all received an overall five-star rating from brokers. The report also shows five extranets achieved four stars, two received three stars, and one extranet was rated at two stars overall.
Brokers also rated the broker management systems used at their firms, with the software houses featured in the final report being Acturis, Bravo Digital Trader, and Open GI. Acturis secured first place among these platforms for the 10th consecutive year, a streak that suggests consistent performance rather than a one-off result.
That kind of longevity in broker satisfaction is rare. It may put pressure on competitors to close the gap in the next survey cycle. The gap might reflect actual platform differences or simply entrenched habits among broker teams who have used the same system for years.
Software house trading results
The report also looked specifically at broker journeys when trading with an insurer through a software house platform. In that category, Zurich, Aviva, and Intact were the standout performers, each awarded five stars by surveyed brokers. Five insurers received a four-star rating, while two insurers achieved three stars.
The survey results will be available in print form to delegates at the Biba Conference 2026. Copies will be distributed at the Insurance Times stand at A50.
Insurance Times thanked all brokers who participated in the survey, noting that their responses informed the final report. The full breakdown of ratings across all categories is expected to be published alongside the conference materials. For a broader look at how these ratings fit into the wider market, see the MGA market ratings released for 2025. The current eTrading results stand apart from that separate assessment of managing general agents. Brokers seeking a complete picture of provider performance may want to consult both documents. The eTrading report remains focused on the platforms and insurers covered in its survey. That focus gives brokers a clear view of the top performers in this specific segment. The conference distribution will make the findings accessible to a wide audience. The report’s publication marks another year of tracking broker sentiment in this channel. The consistency of the top ratings suggests stability among the leading providers. The two-star rating for one extranet shows the range of experiences among brokers. The overall results offer a snapshot of the current eTrading setting. The report’s longevity provides a useful trend line for the industry. The 12-year history of the survey adds weight to its findings. The broker responses form the backbone of the analysis. The final document will serve as a reference point for the sector.
